The first two Eagles’ drives of 2024 looked a lot like how the 2023 team finished last season.
As Philadelphia took on the Packers in Brazil on Friday night, the team’s first drive in the season opener included three slip-ups, including Saquon Barkley’s stumble on what appeared to be a slippery surface at Neo Quimica Arena in his first possession as an Eagle.
On the second play, quarterback Jalen Hurts then threw an incompletion to a well-covered A.J. Brown before tossing an interception by former Giants defensive back Xavier McKinney, who set up Green Bay at the Philadelphia 19-yard-line.
The Philadelphia defense did hold the Packers to a field goal, but the rocky start for the offense continued as the Eagles could only put three more plays together before Hurts fumbled the ball after center Cam Jurgens clearly wasn’t in rhythm with the quarterback.
As the Eagles lost the ball, the Peacock cameras quickly panned to Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni for a reaction.
Viewers saw what appeared to be the head coach saying, “What the f–k.”
Jurgens is taking over for Jason Kelce, who retired after last season after a decade at center for Philly, and the new center was seen talking with Hurts after the second turnover in an attempt to get in sync.
While it wasn’t the start the Eagles were looking for, they did rebound with two Saquon Barkley touchdowns in the first half before taking their first lead in the third quarter when Hurts connected with Brown for a score.
