Apparent terrorist wounds dozens in Israel truck attack

A truck rammed into a crowded bus stop in Israel on Sunday in what authorities said was a suspected Hamas terrorist attack — killing one person and injuring more than 30 others, including a group of retirees on a tour group.

The driver, an Arab-Israeli, was then shot by a group of armed civilians.

Israeli police said he smashed into a bus stop in Ramat Hasharon, northeast of Tel Aviv, as residents were returning to work after the weeklong holiday.

The horrific traffic accident left 32 people injured, with at least six people listed in serious condition after being pinned underneath vehicles.

“A truck hit dozens of people who had disembarked at a bus stop. Eight of the wounded were trapped under the truck and others were lying and walking near it,” Israel’s Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service said in a statement.

A group of retirees out on a day trip to a nearby museum were also among those injured in the crash, according to Israeli outlets.

Following the crash, police said armed civilians “shot at the truck driver and neutralized him.”

While Hamas had initially praised the attack Sunday morning without claiming responsibility, the terrorist group later said it was conducted in direct response to Israel’s actions in Gaza.

Israeli police did not say if Sunday’s incident was being investigated as a terrorist attack.

Right-wing National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who oversees the Israeli police, demanded that the family of the driver be deported from Israel.

The incident occurred as another attack broke out near a checkpoint in the West Bank, where a suspect tried to ram his vehicle into Israeli soldiers, officials said.

The suspect also attempted to stab the troops before he was shot and killed, according to the Israeli Defense Forces.

Palestinian terrorists have carried out similar car-ramming attacks in Israel over the years, along with stabbings and mass shootings.

Earlier this month, just moments before Iran fired a ballistic missile barrage at Israel, two terrorists went on a rampage at a train station near Tel Aviv, killing seven people.

The two terrorists, who were from the Israeli-occupied West Bank town of Hebron, were shot and killed by security guards and armed pedestrians, authorities added.
