Chilling video shows prisoners breaking into giant smiles before beating sex offender to death

Newly released video shows two UK prisoners breaking into giant smiles moments before they viciously beat a convicted sex offender to death in his cell.

Footage released Thursday shows a shirtless Ashirie Smith, 19, and fellow prisoner Thierry Robinson, 21, creeping down a hallway of His Majesty’s Prison Fosse Way in Leicestershire, flashing smiles as they creep toward Mahir Abdulrahman’s cell.

They emerged 37 seconds later — with a warden soon finding Abdulrahman beaten unconscious inside.

The inmate — who was serving a 35-week sentence for sex offences, according to the Sun — was pronounced dead within the hour due to bleeding to the brain.

He had asked to be moved to a new cell shortly before the attack last August, and another inmate said the accused had been “terrorizing him for days,” according to testimony heard at trial.

Smith, who was serving time for a weapons charge at the time of the attack, was found guilty of murder on Thursday. He was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 17 ½ years served.

Robinson was cleared of murder but found guilty of manslaughter. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison.

A third defendant — Shaan Karim, 38 — was found not guilty of murder and manslaughter.

“Any death in prison is a tragedy but the murder of Mr Abdulrahman was a heinous act,” said prison director Wyn Jones.

“My thoughts remain with his family and those affected by his untimely death.”
