A 64-year-old German tourist was killed in a freak mishap when a pickup truck ran her over while she was sunbathing on the beach — while her husband took a dip in the water.

The victim, who was not identified, was staying at the ritzy Playa del Ingles resort on the island of Gran Canaria in Spain’s Canary Island on Dec. 3 when the 4-by-4 ran over her chest, the Daily Express said.

The driver kept going after the incident, but told police when they caught up with him that he had no idea he had run over someone, the outlet reported.

“The incident occurred around 12:30pm [Dec. 3] at Playa del Ingles in the municipality of San Bartolome de Tirajana,” a spokesperson for local emergency services said. “She was confirmed dead after beach lifeguards responded with initial medical assistance. Police attended the scene along with paramedics.”

The driver was described as a 50-year-old veteran delivery worker who has been on the job for decades and is familiar with the area, according to a report by The Mirror.

It is not immediately clear if the driver was charged, but authorities told the Express that the truck, which was making deliveries, was on the beach after the allowed time for vehicles on the sand.

Delivery vehicles are only permitted on the beach between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., the outlet said.
