Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked a “resolute” President-elect Trump on Saturday after the two met at the Élysée Palace with French President Emmanuel Macron.
“I had a good and productive trilateral meeting with President @realDonaldTrump and President @EmmanuelMacron at the Élysée Palace. President Trump is, as always, resolute. I thank him. I also extend my gratitude to Emmanuel for organizing this important meeting,” Zelensky posted on X shortly after the confab.
“We all want this war to end as soon as possible and in a just way. We spoke about our people, the situation on the ground, and a just peace. We agreed to continue working together and keep in contact. Peace through strength is possible,” added Zelensky, who posted photos of the trio.
Reps for the Ukrainian leader had been in Washington this week angling for the meeting, which was not finalized until the last moment.
On the campaign trail, Trump vowed to bring the war between Russia and Ukraine to a speedy conclusion.
Trump is in Paris to celebrate the reopening of Notre Dame cathedral, which suffered widespread damage after a devastating fire in 2019.
