Source: Seahawks to sign WR Valdes-Scantling

The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $5.5 million with veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, a source confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday.

The move addresses one of the Seahawks’ most glaring needs after the team agreed to trade DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers and released Tyler Lockett, leaving the receiver corps with limited options after Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Valdes-Scantling reunites in Seattle with offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who had the same job last season with the New Orleans Saints.

Valdes-Scantling, 30, signed with the Saints in October after he was released by the Buffalo Bills midseason. He replaced an injured Rashid Shaheed and became the Saints’ primary deep-threat receiver last season.

He caught only two passes in his six games with the Bills last season before his release. However, he quickly became one of Derek Carr‘s main targets in New Orleans. In eight games for the Saints, Valdes-Scantling caught 17 passes for 385 yards and four touchdowns. He had two touchdowns off just three receptions in a Week 9 game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Valdes-Scantling, who is going into his eighth season, is coming off a season in which he had a career-high 22.6 yards per catch in New Orleans.

Valdes-Scantling was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL draft. He spent four seasons there before signing a three-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs. He helped the Chiefs win two Super Bowls and was released after two seasons.

He has 205 receptions for 3,566 yards and 20 touchdowns in seven seasons.
