Desperate plea for clues after SoCal mom vanishes following summer camp drop-off

Loved ones and friends are desperate for answers as the search continues for a Southern California mom who disappeared more than a week ago after dropping off her daughter at a San Diego County camp.

Angelica Brophy, 44, a mom and emergency room nurse, was last seen on July 6 at the Oceanside camp before she failed to return later that day to pick her child up.

A vigil was held on Wednesday at a park in San Marcos, where family and friends gathered to comfort each other, asking people for any clues that could help in the search, NBC San Diego reported.

“Search your memory. Did you notice a vehicle, a person or anything that seemed out of place?” Brophy’s brother, Martin Fabregas, said.

He also sent a message to his sister letting her know how much she’s loved and said the family will never stop looking for her.

“Angelica, if there is anyway you can see this please know we love you beyond words,” Fabregas said.

“We are searching for you every single day. We are not giving up and we will never stop looking until you are home where you belong.”

Her husband, Brent Brophy, was there with their two kids, and became emotional during the gathering.

Surveillance video showed Angelica leaving the Harrah’s Resort Southern California casino, east of Escondido, at around 3:30 p.m. A parking slip placed her at Palomar Mountain State Park about 15 miles northeast about 50 minutes later.

Brophy’s husband reached out to Fabregas at the time to ask whether she had contacted him, the outlet reported.

“Her husband called asking if I’d heard from her,” Fabregas said. “I said no.”

Days later, her car was found at Palomar Mountain State Park. At that time, her family contacted rangers, kicking off a widespread search.

Volunteers, family members and search and rescue teams have scoured the area, with the search centered around Palomar Mountain State Park, where Brophy was known to hike.

Oceanside Police Department said “dive team members with California State Parks and Port of San Diego Harbor Police responded to Palomar Mountain State Park to search a nearby pond, with negative results.”

Flyers for the missing mother describe her as standing 5-foot-5 and weighing around 130 pounds. She was last seen wearing black leggings and a gray T-shirt. Anyone with information on her disappearance is urged to contact the Oceanside Police Department, which is leading the investigation.

A social media campaign called “Bring Angelica Home” was launched to share information in hopes that she’s found.

“Our goal is to keep the community informed, coordinate support and search efforts, and help bring Angelica home,” a post read.

“Every share matters. Thank you for helping keep Angelica’s story visible until she is found.”

Oceanside Police Captain Nick Nunez told NBC San Diego that no evidence of foul play is suspected in her disappearance. But Nunez said police are checking with Harrah’s casino to see if anyone was with her or following her.
