A heartbreaking mystery is unfolding in South Los Angeles after twin toddler brothers were found dead inside their family’s Hyde Park home, with investigators now examining whether a drug overdose may have claimed their lives.
Los Angeles Police Department officers were called to a residence on South Victoria Avenue near Crenshaw Boulevard at about 7:30 a.m. Monday after paramedics responding to a medical emergency discovered the boys and determined they had died, police told NBC.
Authorities are investigating the deaths as a possible drug overdose while they await toxicology testing, according to law enforcement.
The toddlers were identified by the LA County Medical Examiner’s Office as Atlas and Sebastian Carbajal according to NBC.

Fentanyl may have been involved, although officials stressed that toxicology results had not been released as of Thursday, NBC reported.
Detectives questioned members of the boys’ family as part of the investigation before releasing them, the LAPD said.
Autopsies have already been performed on both children, but the findings have not been released.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office is holding the reports until toxicology results are available so it can determine the official cause and manner of the death.
