Grim video shows tourist throwing loved one’s ashes on streets of Greek hotspot

Urn-believable.

A tourist appeared to pour a loved one’s ashes out on the streets of the world-famous Greek tourist destination Santorini in a bizarre viral stunt.

The visitor, believed to be British, has sparked fury after footage of her surreal moment was shared on social media.

In the video, the group of visitors can be seen singing Bob Marley’s 1977 hit “Three Little Birds” as they walk through the streets of Oia on the north side of the island.

The woman sprinkles ashes on the cobbled streets as they walk past residents’ houses.

It isn’t clear exactly when the video was filmed, but it was first shared on Reddit on May 25.

It was reportedly the deceased’s final wish to have their ashes scattered in Santorini, an island that has seen soaring tourist numbers due to social media influencers.

But their actions sparked fury in Greece, which welcomed roughly 43 million international tourists in 2025.

“This is not normal or even permitted legally in the UK. Brits would have the same reactions as Greeks: it’s a group of nutcases doing it,” one resident wrote in the comment section of a local news site.

“The British come to Greece and always make the news because of some BS they did. They act like they have been caged and come to Greece and lose their minds,” complained a second commenter, who added that it could be a health risk.

“Did this person die of a disease, and now you are spreading their ashes? They should be fined for their actions,” they wrote.

In Greece, scattering of ashes is only permitted under certain conditions, and only in specially designated memorial areas, in an open space outside residential areas, or in the sea.

So far, there are no details on whether the woman was punished or fined by local authorities.
