PITTSBURGH, PA — With their second-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots have officially selected marriage counselor Amy Connors out of the University of North Texas Clinical Counseling Program.
A standout in her master’s program for family and marriage counseling, Connors was projected as a high-need position for New England, ultimately coming off the board when the Patriots traded up to select her with the 45th overall pick.
“This is a fantastic pick for the Patriots,” said ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr. “Connors is going to be able to come in and make an impact day one. She has elite conflict resolution abilities, and looking at her tape, her relational dynamics advising is off the charts. Connors comes out of a smaller school, so she hasn’t quite dealt with the level of adultery she’s going to see in the NFL, but I think she has a tremendously high ceiling.”
League insiders said the Patriots’ front office had been quietly scouting Connors for months, with several members of the coaching staff sitting in on her practicum sessions for struggling couples. “We love what we’ve seen,” said Assistant Coach Terrell Williams. “We think Connors will be ready to immediately contribute with her communication coaching and de-escalation training. Sometimes in the draft, you have to choose between what the team needs and who is the most talented person on the board. Fortunately, this is one of those times where we got both.”
At publishing time, the Patriots were reportedly considering using one of their third-round picks to select a divorce lawyer.
