Two cops were injured in a shootout with a gun-wielding suspect, who was killed in the crossfire, according to police and local reports.
Gunshots rang out near the South East Park area of Columbia on Saturday morning, according to the Columbia Police Department.
Two officers sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to a local hospital. The suspect died in the shooting, WISTV reported.
Police assured the community that there was no ongoing threat to the public and that the situation is under investigation.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is leading the probe into the shooting, and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department is assisting.
