Barred from selling the scene of the crime, a Bay Area landlord is trying to rent out his own murdered tenant’s home for $6,300 a month.
A 68-year-old landlord named Philippe Chagniot is trying to rent out his home after allegedly killing 58-year-old Eric Bigone –– his own tenant –– mid-May in front of the house at 2518 46th Avenue in San Francisco.
The 1,200-square-foot home comes with three beds, two baths, and features “beautiful hardwood floors, abundant natural light, and an updated interior,” according to the home’s listing. The home was originally listed for $8,000 before being reduced down to $6,300.
This comes as Chagniot reportedly spray-painted surveillance cameras around the crime scene before starting a fire atop Bigone’s car. The landlord then shot the 58-year-old twice from behind with an automatic Mac-10 firearm as the victim was dealing with the fire.
Following the incident, the suspect was seen biking away.
He was charged with murder and was detained without bail, the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office said in May.
In a wrongful death lawsuit, the victim’s son –– Dino Bigone –– alleged that Chagniot had killed his father to clear out the home for sale. While a judge blocked the Chagniot family from selling the home, the family was permitted to rent it out.
The home is currently owned by the Chagniot 2007 Family Trust that includes Chagniot and his wife.
A woman who toured the listing said she saw that the home was owned by a family trust and grew suspicious. She also saw the news stories about the killing on the internet and was disturbed.
“I wasn’t looking for if someone was killed in the lease. My money would presumably be benefiting this family,” the prospective tenant told The San Francisco Standard.
“That’s such bulls–t. I’m upset, sick,” a neighbor who was outraged about the whole situation also said.
A GoFundMe for Bigone’s son and grandchildren has been made and has raised about $13,000 of its $65,000 goal.
