Andrew Tate’s own lawyer compares him to absurd comedy character ‘Ali G’ as shackled influencer appears in court

Andrew Tate’s controversial social media personality was compared to Sacha Baron Cohen’s ridiculous “Ali G” character by his own lawyer during a court hearing fighting for his release from jail.

“That is not the real Andrew Tate, the person Andrew Tate,” his lawyer Howard Srebnick argued Thursday.

Andrew Tate, 39, and his brother, Tristan, 38, have been in federal custody in Miami since July 18 and are fighting extradition to the UK, where they face a slew of rape and sex trafficking charges.

The brothers appeared in court shackled and clad in tan prison garb for a hearing in which their lawyer argued they should be sprung from lockup while awaiting their extradition hearing.

Defense attorney Joseph McBride told reporters that he isn’t aware of a case in which US Magistrate Lauren Louis has granted such a request, but claimed the truth was on the brothers’ side.

“They have never run away from the law. They have leaned into the court process everywhere they go. They are innocent men. They are free men. They are good men,” he said.

Their legal team has pulled out all the stops, attempting to argue that the brothers are not flight risks, including admitting in a sprawling legal document that their over-the-top displays of lavish wealth were all smoke and mirrors.

The duo’s videos often feature a $2.1 million Aston Martin and a pair of Bugatti sportscars worth a combined $12 million — but all three cars were “rented” props, their legal team said.

The $50 million superyacht they show off also “does not belong to the Tates,” the documents state, explaining they “received payment to promote the ship on social media.”

Their legal team conceded in a 28-page petition supporting the Tates’ motion for release that their wildly influential posts shouldn’t be taken seriously because they are “obvious satire, hyperbole and promotion” trying to trick followers for a payday.

Tristan Tate also made a stink this week about the brothers’ snack allotment from the prison commissary, grousing they’ve been shortchanged and have been losing weight.

“We have had 14 snack items in the past 32 days between two big men. What is this, trick or treat? I’ve lost 13 pounds and I’m hungry,” reads a hand-scrawled missive by younger brother Tristan Tate dated Aug. 19, which was shared on X by their lawyer, Joe McBride.

“Tristan is down 13 lbs, and Andrew 8. The Gov claims they have normal commissary access,” McBride wrote on X. “The Gov is lying.”
