Apocalyptic video shows raging forest fires threatening to consume a freight train in rural Canada – with its worried crew fearing they could be trapped in the inferno.
Bright orange flames licked the train that was stranded near Armstrong, Ontario late Tuesday, the clip shared by Ontario lawmaker Sol Mamakwa shows.
“This could potentially overtake us here, this has gotten a little scary,” one worker relayed to their operator as the wildfire threatened to race ahead of the locomotive.
“Y’all need to hurry up here. Seriously. We’re encased in flames.”
“This has got to move f–king quick,” the man said, begging for assistance.
Fires were burning by the side of the track while the flames had turned the sky orange.
Canadian National Railway – the freight train operator – confirmed three trains hauling flammable materials were stopped in the Armstrong area Tuesday, according to the Canadian outlet Superior North News.
Crews were evacuated from the trains.
The fires across western Ontario are now threatening to send plumes of smoke towards the Great Lakes and northeastern US.
Smoke could reach Boston, New York City, and Philadelphia by Wednesday night, Fox Weather reported, with meteorologists warning smoke concentrations could compare to the orange blankets that covered The Big Apple in June 2023.
