A plane carrying six people has disappeared off the coast of Nantucket, leading the Coast Guard to launch a desperate air and surface search.
The Gulfstream G100 was flying from Bermuda to Boston at 12:41 a.m. Saturday and lost contact with the Federal Aviation Administration before it was scheduled to land at 1:25 a.m., according to the USCG and FlightAware.
The flight plummeted from 23,500 feet to 11,000 feet in just three minutes starting at 1:04 a.m., according to FlightAware data.
The final radar ping came at 1:23 a.m., shortly before they were scheduled to land, that data showed.
“The FAA issued a Search and Rescue Alert Notice for Gulfstream G-100 around 1:20 a.m. local time on Saturday, Oct. 3,” an FAA spokesperson told The Post.
“The flight departed from L.F. Wade International Airport in Bermuda and was headed to Boston Logan International Airport. Six people were on board,” the agency continued.
“The FAA is coordinating with the Rescue Coordination Center and the U.S. Coast Guard to locate the aircraft,” the statement concluded.
Two coast guard aircraft are currently conducting a search just south of Nantucket, according to FlightRadar24.
The Coast Guard did not immediately respond to request for comment.
