BREAKING: Georgia Republicans Reject Governor Kemp’s Call For 2028 Redistricting That Would Add 2 GOP Seats

Georgia Republicans on Wednesday rejected GOP Governor Brian Kemp’s call to redraw the state’s 2028 Congressional map.

As TGP reported last month, Brian Kemp called a special legislative session to redraw the state’s congressional, state House, and state Senate maps following the US Supreme Court’s landmark ruling gutting key parts of the radical Voting Rights Act.

The case, State of Louisiana v. Phillip Callais (and the related Press Robinson v. Phillip Callais), stems from Louisiana’s woke lawmakers caving to left-wing judges and creating a second “majority-minority” congressional district.

Following the Supreme Court’s ruling, several GOP-led state legislatures got to working redrawing Congressional maps to eliminate racially gerrymandered districts.

Kemp announced last month that he was calling a special legislative session beginning June 17 (today) to redraw the state’s congressional and legislative district maps.

Republicans were positioned to pick up TWO MORE U.S. House seats in Georgia, flipping the current 9R-5D delegation into an 11 Republican to 3 Democrat map.

But Kemp deliberately made these new maps effective for the 2028 elections, NOT the 2026 midterms.

And he still lost.

On Wednesday, Georgia Republican leadership rejected the outgoing Governor’s call for 2028 redistricting.

The AP reported:

Republican lawmakers in Georgia said Wednesday that they won’t redraw congressional and state legislative districts for the 2028 elections during a special session called by GOP Gov. Brian Kemp.

In a letter to Kemp, Republican House leaders said changes to Georgia’s maps should take place only after a deliberative process providing the public ample opportunity for input. They also noted that legal challenges are still ongoing against some of their current districts.

The decision marked a setback for both Kemp and President Donald Trump, who has urged Republican-led states to redraw congressional districts to their advantage.
