California doctor to the stars’ ex-wife pleads not guilty over his ambush-style murder outside his practice

A California woman accused of hiring a hit man to kill her celebrity doctor ex-husband pleaded not guilty Monday to murder charges.

Ahang Mirshojae, 54, of Calabasas is accused of conspiring to kill Dr. Hamid Mirshojae, a prominent Southern California physician who was gunned down outside his Woodland Hills medical clinic in August 2024.

She faces the murder charge alongside alleged gunman Evan Hardman, 42, of Tomball, Texas.

Hardman allegedly told detectives Mirshojae first hired him to attack her former husband months before the fatal shooting. He is due to be arraigned in court Tuesday.

The initial plot allegedly involved beating Mirshojae and taking two valuable watches. After the attack failed to produce the watches, Hardman said, Mirshojae wanted the job taken further.

Hardman told investigators Mirshojae later offered him $400,000 to kill the doctor during a meeting in Agoura Hills, according to testimony detailed in court proceedings.

He allegedly recalled her saying, “I want to take him all the way out.” 

Hardman also claimed she reacted as though she had won a major victory after learning of the shooting and gave him a bag containing cash. Prosecutors allege the killing was carefully planned.

On Aug. 23, 2024, a masked gunman allegedly waited for Mirshojae outside his clinic on the 5900 block of Topanga Canyon Boulevard before approaching him from behind as he headed toward his vehicle.

The doctor was shot in the head at close range and died at the scene, according to prosecutors. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has alleged that the killing was carried out for financial gain and that Hardman intentionally waited for the victim before attacking him.

The alleged murder came just months after Mirshojae was attacked with a blunt weapon. Prosecutors say Mirshojae’s ex-wife also hired Hardman and another man, Sarallah Jawed, in connection with that earlier assault.

Jawed was later charged in the case, while Ashley Rose Sweeting was accused of acting as an accessory and allegedly driving Hardman to and from the shooting.

A judge ultimately found insufficient evidence to send Jawed and Sweeting to trial on the murder charges, while Mirshojae and Hardman were ordered to stand trial in June 2026.

Mirshojae’s murder shocked his family and patients.

The physician had spent decades working in emergency medicine and addiction treatment, with his professional biography saying his patients included “celebrities, movie stars, athletes.”

His death also came after he had remarried. Mirshojae and his new wife had a young daughter together, and his widow later filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against Ahang Mirshojae and others, alleging the killing was driven by revenge, jealousy and financial disputes. 

Mirshojae’s ex-wife had publicly expressed shock and grief after his death, before authorities accused her of orchestrating the killing.

She has denied involvement. Her attorney has argued that prosecutors are trying to portray her as the mastermind despite what the defense says is insufficient evidence.

A judge has ordered Mirshojae and Hardman held without bail. The case is now headed toward trial, where prosecutors will have to prove their allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.
