California mosque where gunmen killed 3 in May abruptly put on lockdown

The San Diego mosque where a pair of teen gunmen killed three people in May was placed on lockdown Tuesday, police said.

The San Diego Police Department announced around 3 p.m. that the Islamic Center of San Diego “is currently on lockdown out of an abundance of caution.”

“SDPD has a police presence at the location to ensure everyone’s safety,” the alert added. “Please avoid the area. Additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.”

Police urged the public to call 911 if they spot a gray 2015 Toyota 4Runner with New York license plate KGN3027, confirming the vehicle is related to the recent lockdown.

The SDPD told The California Post they are “working to clear the remainder of students” and will then hold a presser with up-to-the-minute info.

The complex houses a full-time private school and youth programs, which is why so many children were on the property at the time.

The Islamic Center was the site of a mass shooting on May 18, when Caleb Vazquez and Cain Clark opened fire at the mosque after inscribing anti-Muslim hate messages on their weapons before taking their own lives.

North Carolina student Sarah Lindsey Santiago, 17, was also charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, according to WBAL-TV.

Prosecutors allege she agreed before the attack to livestream the massacre, distribute the recording publicly and release the gunmen’s manifesto.
