Shots were fired on the 101 Freeway Thursday morning near Boyle Heights after California Highway Patrol officers responded to a call about a person possibly wielding a hammer on the road.

A person has been transported to a hospital in unknown condition, the Los Angeles Fire Department told The California Post. No information about the person is known.

The shooting happened during rush hour near downtown Los Angeles at around 7:30 a.m. after officers got a call about a person with a weapon on the road. Fire officials showed up a few minutes later, around 7:58 a.m., to transport one patient.

The Los Angeles Police Department also responded, according to the LAFD.

No officers were injured in the incident.

CHP has issued a SigAlert in the area of the shooting, signaling that northbound lanes on the 101 at 4th Street will be closed until further notice.

The southbound freeway lanes have since reopened. Motorists are urged to avoid the area with traffic backed up and are advised to use Interstate 5 or the 10 Freeway. FOX

As officers conduct a shooting investigation in the area, lanes on both sides of the 101 Freeway have been closed.

The LAPD referred The California Post to CHP for information about the incident.
