It was the great escape.
A mischievous Idaho boy, 3, wouldn’t take no for an answer when his mom told him he couldn’t visit his grandma first thing in the morning — so he snuck out and made the half-mile trek there on his own.
Declan Driscoll’s hilarious AWOL attempt was captured on the family’s security cameras and has since gone viral on TikTok, amassing close to 3 million views since the boy’s mother, Hannah Driscoll, posted it on July 18.
The daring tot ran the half-mile journey around 8 a.m. on a Sunday morning last month — and had to cross a 50 mph road to get to grandma’s house, she wrote on TikTok.
“On Sunday morning, just before 8:00, my 3-year-old asked if we could go to his grandma’s house. I told him no because it was early, and I believed he had accepted that answer,” the mom told Storyful.
Driscoll thought her pint-sized adventurer was playing downstairs with his siblings while she finished getting ready for the day.
But in the footage, a quiet bare-foot, hoodie-wearing sneak can be seen walking through the family’s living room with his head down — before making his way out the back stairs and to the front driveway.
The escape artist then walks onto the road and starts picking up the pace, bolting down his family’s street.
The video then cuts to security footage from Declan’s grandma’s house, where the 3-year-old is seen running up to the front door at lightning speed.
The speedster was so quick that he showed up at his grandma’s house before his mother even noticed he was missing.
“By the time I realized what had happened, I already knew my son was safe because my mom had called me,” Driscoll told Storyful.
“My first emotions were disbelief and overwhelming relief, followed by a lot of guilt as I processed how quickly it had happened.”
Driscoll said it was a wake-up call to implement greater safety measures.
While funny, the Idaho mom said it “reminds families how quickly that young children can move,” and “encourages parents to evaluate their own home safety.”
