Exotic bird gets high-flying rescue from SF balcony — as parrots flock to celebrate

A wild parrot seemingly wore a sheepish grin after San Francisco firefighters rescued the bird from a perilous predicament.

One of the famed “wild parrots of Telegraph Hill” — the colorful birds known to flock in and around the iconic San Francisco neighborhood — got its head stuck between glass on a third-floor balcony that was under construction, the Fire Department said Monday.

A firefighter was forced to climb onto the occupied home’s roof, lowering a ladder to the balcony in order to gingerly slide the green bird’s head free before wrapping it in a towel.

“When on the balcony, they carefully slid the bird up to free it. They wrapped the bird in a towel and handed it off to Officer Mullen, who checked out the bird,” the department shared on social media.

“Thankfully they were fine: their wings, legs and neck were all ok, so Officer Mullen released the bird.”
