An F-35 aircraft was involved in an accident at the Miramar Air Base in San Diego Friday morning, sending up a plume of black smoke.

Emergency crews have responded to the area, and the charred remnants of the aircraft are visible, according to KGTV. The incident happened around 10 a.m., according to officials.
It’s unclear what started the fire or if anyone is injured.
Marine officials confirmed that emergency personnel were responding to an F-35 “aircraft mishap” that happened on a flight line, according to Fox 5 San Diego. The officials said the aircraft was assigned to 3rd Marine Air Wing, Marine Air Group 11.
The fire was in an area east of the runways close to the intersection of Kearny Villa Road and Johnson Road.
