Starmer is letting the Royal Navy fall into disrepair.

Against the backdrop of escalating tensions in Europe, we have been reporting here on TGP about the British Royal Navy’s decadence and lack of preparedness.

Yesterday (9), a report arose revealing that embattled Prime Minister Keir Starmer is considering delaying or scrapping the Royal Navy’s future class of guided-missile destroyers in his defense plan altogether.

.@TomCotterillX reports in the Telegraph that the Type 83 Destroyer programme (Type 45 replacement) will be deferred in the DIP as the Treasury [rightly] says the plan for them to enter service from 2035 is unrealistic.

The Telegraph reported:

“The Prime Minister is contemplating dropping plans to build Type 83 warships, which were intended to replace the UK’s ageing fleet of Type 45 destroyers between 2035 and 2038. The scheme has been put on the backburner amid a funding row between the Ministry of Defense (MoD) and the Treasury over Sir Keir’s Defense Investment Plan (DIP).

Ministers hope the long-delayed plan, which was scheduled to be published last autumn, will finally be announced on Thursday, but officials are still locked in discussions about the projects the Government will fund.”

Now rumoured Type 83 Destroyers could be delayed in the DIP from their original ISD of late 2030s.

Not surprising, but the Type 45s remain relatively young ships due to time alongside, and first elements of FADS will come with Type 91.

The new Type 83 destroyers are still in the design stage. A new generation of fighter aircraft and the purchase of nuclear-capable F-35A jets could also be delayed.

“John Healey, the Defense Secretary, is understood to believe that his department needs an additional £18bn to meet the threat level laid out in last year’s Defense review, which was commissioned by Labour.

But the Treasury has attempted to cut down the cost of the investment plan, arguing that Britain cannot afford more borrowing or widespread cuts across other Whitehall departments.”
