The ex-cop charged with gunning down a beloved Con Ed worker in a road-rage encounter on the George Washington Bridge was a driver for the wealthy CEO of an investment company – and was behind the wheel of the company’s Range Rover SUV at the time.

Former NYPD detective Victor Romero had been working private security jobs since he left New York’s Finest in 2001, and was currently working for the biotech and energy investment firm QVT Financial as driver for CEO Dan Gold, law enforcement sources told The Post.

In a statement Thursday, a rep for the company would only say they’re aware of the incident.
“We are aware of the press reports concerning Victor Romero and are cooperating with the authorities in this matter,” the statement said.

Romero, 62, a former Brooklyn narcotics detective, was charged with manslaughter Thursday for allegedly shooting and killing Con Ed worker and father of two, Koran Irvine, on the Jersey-bound lanes on the span on Tuesday night.

Manhattan prosecutors said Romero had been tailgating Irvine and fired a single shot into his vehicle, then sped off without stopping or calling 911.

He was arrested Wednesday and ordered held on $1 million bail.

It is unclear how long he had been working for Gold at QVT.

The Harvard-educated CEO founded the firm in 2003, according to his LinkedIn.com page. Online records show the hedge fund manages more than $2 billion in assets.
