An off-duty FBI agent driving home in Chicago on Monday night stopped and fatally shot a 27-year-old Venezuelan illegal alien who was firing a gun toward people in a homeless encampment, according to multiple federal law enforcement sources who spoke to Fox News.
The alien, identified as Oscar D. Corrales, had been caught at the southern border in October 2023 and released into the United States under the Biden administration.
Corrales also had a prior arrest in California but was reportedly released by law enforcement despite an ICE detainer.

Multiple federal law enforcement sources tell Fox News that the man who was shot and killed by an off-duty FBI agent in Chicago last night was a Venezuelan illegal alien who was seen shooting into a homeless encampment. Per sources, the FBI agent was driving alone when he saw 27-year-old OSCAR D. CORRALES shooting at people in the encampment, and the agent stopped and shot CORRALES, killing him.
Fox is told CORRALES was previously caught and released at the southern border by the Biden administration in October 2023, and he has a previous arrest in California in which he was released from custody with an ICE detainer ignored.
Corrales sustained multiple gunshot wounds, including to both legs, his chest, and right flank.
He was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital less than an hour after the shooting.
The agent was not injured.
No other injuries were reported from the encampment shooting.
The Chicago Sun Times detailed Corrales criminal history:
Isaya-Corrales’ place of birth was listed as Venezuela in an arrest report filed on May 25, when he was allegedly caught shoplifting at a Nordstrom store at 55 E. Grand Ave. He tried to steal five necklaces valued at nearly $320 but was apprehended by security guards, the report says.
He had a Guatemalan passport “that did not belong to him,” although officers couldn’t immediately determine whether it was stolen, according to the report.
A warrant was issued for his arrest on June 1 when he failed to appear in court, records show. Before that, he was charged with damaging a woman’s windshield, but that case was quickly dropped.
He had lived at the Pacific Garden Mission, a shelter at 527 W. 14th Place, according to police records. Chris Ridgeway, a manager at Pacific Garden, said Isaya-Corrales lived in the shelter from January until March and later for a few weeks in May. Ridgeway said he remembered Isaya-Corrales’ bleached hair and affable personality.
