A Hollywood Hills hillside suddenly gave way Friday, damaging a home below and forcing eight apartment units perched above the slide to evacuate as firefighters raced to stabilize the precarious scene.
The collapse struck around 2 p.m. in the 1900 block of North Wilcox Avenue, triggering a major response from Los Angeles firefighters and Urban Search and Rescue crews.
Residents in eight units on Grace Avenue were ordered out while crews tackled the unstable hillside — with a damaged building below and a swimming pool above the slide both part of the emergency operation.
Firefighters were shoring up the damaged residence while crews worked to dewater the pool and stabilize the area, the Los Angeles Fire Department said in an afternoon update.
The collapse left emergency crews scrambling to secure the hillside and safely clear the apartment building looming above the slide.
The cause remained unknown.
Despite the dramatic collapse, no injuries were reported.
