As NBC Philadelphia reported, a 22-year-old Penn State student named Billy Schmidt was shot and killed by unknown assailants outside his home following a robbery attempt.
The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. near 20th and Durfor streets. According to the family, Schmidt had been returning from a local bar where he was watching the NBA Finals.
Following the shooting, Schmidt was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center but succumbed to his injuries.
News outlets obtained surveillance footage showing the moments leading up to the murder.

The second youth then turns around and shoots Schmidt in the chest.
Schmidt’s family was in complete mourning following his brutal murder.
“He was a really good person who cared about everybody and never hurt or bothered a soul, never bothered anyone, and for him to get shot like that is a travesty,” Bill Schmidt, the victim’s father, told NBC Philadelphia.
The senseless killing left neighbors stunned as well.
“Over a phone. It’s abhorrent. It’s just unbelievable that someone would kill someone over a phone,” neighbor Ezra Roulinavage said.
NBC Philadelphia reports that police have not announced any arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.
