War Secretary Pete Hegseth may face an impeachment vote before the next Congress is seated, as some Republicans, led by Rep. Thomas Massie, are planning to vote on an impeachment resolution after a stunning midterm loss that is widely attributed to the Iran war.
Massie previously introduced articles of impeachment against Hegseth back in September.
CNN is reporting that some GOPers are expecting the latest impeachment resolution to pass in the House as Republican lawmakers turn on Hegseth.
Trump has defended Hegseth, telling reporters on Tuesday that he is not considering firing him.
“No, I think he’s doing a very good job,” Trump said.
Asked if Hegseth should replace Marsha Blackburn in the Senate after her successful run for Governor in Tennessee, Trump said again, “I think he’s doing a very good job.”
Still, Trump said, “I actually think he’d be very popular if he did that, but I haven’t heard that at all.”
WATCH:
CNN reported on Wednesday, “House Republicans are expected to vote to directly repudiate the defense secretary in a matter of days. Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, the famously anti-Trump GOP lawmaker, told CNN he plans to trigger a vote to impeach Hegseth when Congress returns next week — and multiple GOP sources said they expect it to pass.”
Massie further rebuked Trump for planning to continue the war against Iran, telling CNN, “You don’t screw up this badly an election with just one issue.”
“It was completely avoidable if they’d just broken out of the cultish following of Donald Trump,” he added.
“There is one contingency in which I won’t reintroduce the articles of impeachment: Hegseth resigns,” Massie confirmed on X.
There is one contingency in which I won’t reintroduce the articles of impeachment:
Hegseth resigns.

This comes as Democrats have already marked Hegseth as one of their top targets come January, when the Democratic controlled House and Senate are seated.
