Border chaos turned bloody Friday when a knife-wielding madman stabbed a US Border Patrol agent before another agent opened fire and killed the attacker near the California-Arizona border.

The violent confrontation unfolded at the Yuma Border Patrol Sector‘s Blythe Station in California, where the suspect allegedly posed “an immediate threat to civilians and agents on the scene,” according to Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott.

When agents rushed to stop the suspect, one Border Patrol agent was stabbed before a fellow agent shot the attacker dead, Scott said.

The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, died at the scene.

The wounded agent was rushed to a hospital and is expected to recover. A second officer was also injured during the incident, though details on their injuries have not been released.

The attack comes just days after Yuma Border Patrol agents disrupted an alleged alien smuggling operation in early July, underscoring the escalating dangers agents face along the southern border.

“On July 3, 2026, Blythe Station Border Patrol agents stopped a vehicle on Interstate 10 near Ehrenberg, AZ, uncovering a smuggling attempt. The driver, a Guatemalan national, faces prosecution under 8 USC 1324 for alien smuggling and will be deported following sentencing. The passengers—a Guatemalan national and a Mexican national—were also found to be illegally present in the United States and will be processed for deportation,” said Border Patrol on Facebook.

Agents from Blythe Station carry out duties across southeast California, northwest Arizona, and the entire state of Nevada.

Along with several agencies, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General are investigating the incident.
