House Republicans have questions for Mayor Karen Bass but she doesn’t care.

Bass is blowing off a request to appear in Washington, DC to explain what happened to the more than one billion tax dollars her city received to combat homelessness.

Will she be prosecuted for not appearing? She should be.

The New York Post reports:

Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass gives the middle finger to DOGE panel over LAHSA funding

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said she won’t testify before a powerful House panel over alleged “waste, fraud and abuse” involving more than $1 billion in federal homelessness funding.

The Post obtained a copy of a letter the mayor’s team sent to the Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency shooting down its efforts to grill her in Washington, DC, over money given to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA).

Bass’ legal counsel, David Michaelson, said “unfortunately the mayor is not available on that date,” in reference to the DOGE panel’s requested September 15 appearance…

It’s not clear why Bass can’t attend on that date, and her team did not give a reason in the letter…

GOP gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton told The Post the mayor had to be held accountable for homelessness spending.

“There’s no question that taxpayers need to understand where their money has been going, and why it is that after so many billions spent on homelessness, at the state level and in Los Angeles, the problem just seems to get worse and worse,” he said.

Rep. Tim Burchett, who is part of this panel, is not going to accept her excuses.

TN Rep @TimBurchett just opened the books on Karen Bass.

House DOGE is digging into how Los Angeles ran about $1 BILLION through LAHSA… and how much of that money never hit the sidewalks it was supposed to help. Nonprofits got paid. Intended purpose? Missing in action.

Bass must be held accountable.

The homelessness situation in Los Angeles has not improved. If anything, it has gotten worse.
