A Maine fishing town had its claws out after two smiling goons were reportedly captured stealing a hardworking lobsterman’s daily catch.
Lindsay McDaniels, who makes a living hauling traps off Mount Desert Island, was shocked when she discovered that 30 lobsters were stolen from her stash in Northeast Harbor last month, according to the Bar Harbor Story.
Surveillance footage from the marina showed two middle-aged men in baseball caps smirking as they lugged her crates of lobster along two docks on July 24, the outlet reported.
McDaniels, whose Facebook post about the theft went viral among local lobstermen, noted that the brazen burglars appeared to be “from away.”
“They did walk both dingy docks and had 2 big laundry baskets and made a phone call after finding my crate and continued looking for more,” McDaniels wrote in the Facebook post.
“Then loaded it up and left.”
She was left scrambling for a way to make up for the loss of the catch after the theft, she said — which was supposed to sell for up to $500 that day.
McDaniels, who makes a living fishing for lobster alongside her 16-year-old daughter, reported the incident to the Mount Desert police.
Initially, police thought the supposed tourists might have mistaken her lobsters for those they purchased from another fisherman, but McDaniels wanted no part of that excuse, according to the outlet.
“I have spoken with many fishermen to see if they got the wrong lobsters, [and] that has not been the case,” she continued in her post.
“Either way, if they had it arranged or not, they should have made sure it was the right crate.”
The incident has sparked outrage among Maine fishermen and business owners, who have been forced to deal with their region being overrun by tourists, the outlet reported.
“There’s something especially pathetic about a grown man grinning while taking what another person worked for. Even lobsters have more backbone,” one user commented on McDaniel’s post.
“Hope they choke on the big Claw !!! Prayers they are found!!!” another user wrote.
