A huge fire broke out in downtown Los Angeles early Sunday as over 100 firefighters were deployed to the scene.

First responders, including the Los Angeles Police Department, responded to a call at 4:20 a.m. on the 1200 block of South Hope Street, authorities told the California Post.

The structure — a two-story commercial building with a mezzanine — caught fire and all units were ordered out of the building.

About 124 officers were on the scene, and the LAPD helped with traffic control, according to the fire department.

“Heavy fire showing from the roof and heavy pressurized smoke from roll-up doors,” firefighters said in an update, noting the fire had transitioned from offensive to defensive mode.

The flames and smoke caused at least two nearby high-rise apartment buildings to be evacuated, preliminary information indicates.

By 6 a.m., crews had contained the blaze. No injuries were immediately reported.

What started the fire was not known.
