Netanyahu Publicly Rejects Trump’s Peace Plan for Gaza

Israeli officials are refusing a Gaza peace plan put forward by the Board of Peace created by President Donald Trump.

The critical piece of the plan was a proposal that Hamas would gradually disarm as Israeli troops pull out of Gaza, which it attacked after Hamas massacred Israeli citizens on Oct. 7, 2023.

On Saturday, Hamas said it would begin handing over weapons to a Palestinian governing body called for in the plan, according to The Times of Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel’s enemies will get nothing from him.

“As for the Gaza Strip: First and foremost, I wish to clarify the main point: As long as I am Prime Minister, a Palestinian state will not be established, neither in Gaza nor in Judea and Samaria. Neither ‘Fatahstan’ nor ‘Hamastan,’” he said in a Cabinet meeting.

“Israel does not accept the 15-point document,” Netanyahu said, according to an official Israeli government release.

“The IDF will not carry out any withdrawal until Hamas is disarmed. And when I say the disarming of Hamas, it means heavy weaponry, lighter weaponry, all weaponry. And we are talking about genuine disarmament, not fictitious disarmament,” he continued.

“Right now, we are talking with the Americans about this issue. They have ideas, some of which are acceptable to us and some of which are unacceptable, and we know how to stand firm against these things,” he said.

Netanyahu said the Israel Defense Forces will not let up their campaigns.

“The existence of Israel and the security of all Israeli citizens are not up for negotiation. We stand firm on these interests. We do not do this in advertising agencies; we actually do it on the ground,” he said.

“Unlike all those who lecture us, we do what needs to be done for Israel’s security, and we can and know how to stand our ground, even against our best friends when necessary,” he added.

Brig. Gen. Ofir Mizrahi-Rozen, who leads the IDF’s Military Intelligence Directorate’s Research Department, said it simply: “Hamas agreed to the 15-point plan, but hasn’t abandoned the vision of destroying Israel.”

Nickolay Mladenov, the Board of Peace’s high representative for Gaza, said talks might resolve the impasse, as noted by The Wall Street Journal.

“We have asked Israel to give the process a chance,” Mladenov said. “I hope that these discussions will lead to a positive outcome for everyone.”
