A kitten trapped in the bumper of a car in New Jersey survived a nearly 800-mile trip to Georgia — before one of his paws was finally spotted hanging out of the vehicle and he was rescued.
The feisty feline, nicknamed “Jersey,” somehow landed inside the bumper of college student Jadyn Sawyer’s car in Mount Laurel in the Garden State before she headed back to school at the University of Georgia on Aug. 10, NJ.com reported.
Sawyer did not realize the cat was in her bumper till she arrived in Athens – and saw the kitty’s foot hanging out, the outlet said.
Sawyer reported the stuck cat to university police, who in turn reached out to Cat Zip Alliance-Campus Cats, a kitten rescue org, said the group’s founder, Kelly Bettinger.
Bettinger told the outlet that university cops typically call her group for help a handful of times a year for kittens stuck in cars.
But Jersey’s rescue was more complicated than just yanking him out from under something like a car rug, Bettinger said.
It required a team of mechanics to dismantle parts of the vehicle and pull him out of the vehicle’s undercarriage.
The team of rescuers named him Jersey.
Vets looked over the 10-week-old kitty, who was miraculously in fine health after the trip, only suffering from a cold, rescuers said.
The vagabond cat then found a new home in Athens, the group announced in a Facebook post Sept. 6, being taken in by new owner Micki Wisenbaker.
“We are thrilled to have Jersey Boy, now called Jack, as part of our family,” Wisenbaker told NJ.com.
“My husband and I had recently rescued another kitten, Maggie, and she was craving company … they are now best friends.”
