It’s getting harder and harder to recruit players in the NIL era, and one way to do that is by pulling out all the stops with your program’s facilities.

In recent years, there’s been something of an arms race as programs try to cook up the biggest and baddest training facilities that college football has to offer.

Now, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish might be taking over the top spot because their new training facility looks more like where the Avengers go about their daily business than a football facility.

It’s called the Jack and Kathy Shields Family Hall, and it’s nothing short of incredible.

I mean, if I had a son, I’d be getting up from my desk right now, going up to his room and saying, “Put down ‘Fortnite,’ we’re going out in the backyard to run drills. Here’s a post-workout shake for after…”

He’d ask me why — and remind me that we live in a townhouse and don’t have a backyard — and I’d just show him this video.

Hell, I’m 31-years-old and a part of my brain was like, “I think if I worked at it, I could be a backup punter,” just so I could hang out at this place.

I mean, look at it!

For real: they would need to strap me down to a hand truck like Hannibal Lecter to remove me from that break room.

They’d be like, “Man, this guy is a little much… but dammit, if he isn’t one hell of a backup punter.”

While this tactic will work on me, it may not work on actual high-level recruits.

But it certainly isn’t going to hurt, and it shows once again that facilities like this don’t just help the current team; they’re a big piece of the puzzle when it comes to bringing in the next generation of talent.
