Popular Mediterranean chain Cava expanding to Northern California for first time

Northern California is finally getting a taste of Cava.

The popular Mediterranean fast-casual chain is making its long-awaited Bay Area debut next year, ending years of speculation and begging from hungry fans.

“We’re thrilled to finally bring Cava to Northern California after years of hearing from passionate fans across the region who have asked us to come their way,” Jeff Gaul, Cava’s chief development officer, told KRON4.

Cava confirmed to the outlet that its first Northern California outpost will open at 3055 Olin Avenue, Suite 1035, at Santana Row in San Jose.

The chain has also confirmed plans for two more restaurants closer to San Francisco, although it’s keeping mum for now on exactly where those locations will be or when they’ll open.

Cava is essentially Chipotle’s Mediterranean-loving cousin, serving up customizable grain bowls, salads and pitas loaded with ingredients inspired by the flavors of the Mediterranean.

Menu favorites include the Harissa Avocado Bowl and Greek Chicken Pita, while its signature dips can be mixed and matched with meals. Customers can also build their own bowls or choose from the chain’s pre-designed favorites.

Judging by the reaction online, plenty of Bay Area residents have been waiting for this moment.

“Yes!!!” one social media user cheered after the news broke.

“Finally,” another commenter declared.

“About dang time,” a third added.

Cava told KRON4 each new restaurant is expected to employ approximately 25 to 40 local workers.

The chain has been on a serious growth streak since opening its first restaurant in 2011. Cava now boasts more than 450 locations nationwide, including roughly 45 in the Golden State.
