The English Channel has become a hotbed for geopolitical tensions.
We have been reporting here on TGP about the relentless state of alert involving navigation in one of the world’s most important waterways, the English Channel.
The Russian frigate Admiral Grigorovich has been accompanying cargo ships of the so-called ‘Shadow fleet’ across the channel, as you can read in POWDER KEG EUROPE: Russian Warship Escorts Sanctioned Tankers Across the English Channel, In Complete Defiance of Starmer’s Threats and the Royal Navy.
After months of humiliation for the British, and following the resignation of Defense Secretary John Healey, the Royal Navy accosted and seized an unescorted Russian cargo ship, as you can read in British Soldiers Seize Russian Oil Tanker in Dramatic Six-Hour Operation Over English Channel (VIDEO).
It really doesn’t take immense prediction powers to see that these repeated events are taking Europe to the edge of a massive, general military confrontation.

So, today, the same Russian frigate Admiral Grigorovich fired warning shots at an approaching British-flagged yacht in the English Channel, escalating tensions and sending the British press into a frenzy.
Reuters reported:
“Sailors on board a Russian frigate fired warning shots at a civilian yacht in the Channel that came near it on Tuesday, a source familiar with the incident said.
Britain’s Ministry of Defense did not immediately have a comment.
On Sunday, British commandos boarded and intercepted a sanctioned Russian shadow fleet oil tanker in the Channel, leading for the first time an operation to disrupt the oil revenue that helps fund Russia’s war in Ukraine.”
‘It is precisely in these moments that a Prime Minister…needs to be able to call upon vessels to react to these sorts of incidents.’

BBC reported:
“The small, motor-less yacht had drifted towards the warship in foggy conditions after setting off from the UK.
The Russian vessel fired warning shots after sounding an audible warning to get the yacht to move out of its way.
A Ministry of Defense spokesperson said: ‘We are investigating reports of an incident in the Channel’.
British authorities received reports from the yacht’s occupants that the Russian vessel had fired warning shots from around 500 yards (457 meters) away – a relatively near distance by the standards of sea travel.”
The incident happened outside UK territorial waters.
