Spencer Pratt sounds off on ‘commie’ architect behind LA slop vomit designs in brutal, no-holds-barred social post

Spencer Pratt wants “commie brutalist slop” out of Los Angeles’ skyline.

The former mayoral candidate blasted “slopitecture” in a series of architecture-related posts on X early Tuesday.

“One of the hallmarks of communism is the exaltation of ugliness. Contrast our gorgeous Depression-era LA architecture with the commie brutalist slop vomited upon us today.

“I’ll support any candidate who vows to throw this architect in prison for crimes against beauty,” he wrote, contrasting downtown LA’s Eastern Columbia Building with Culver City’s (W)rapper office tower.

The Eastern Columbia Building, which finished construction in 1930, is known for its art-deco style popularized in the first half of the 20th century.

The building is “built of steel-reinforced concrete and clad in glossy turquoise terra cotta trimmed with deep blue and gold terra cotta,” according to the LA Conservancy.

Pratt called it the “benchmark for art deco beauty in LA.”

“Built a century ago, during the throes of the Depression in just *9 months*; a testament to what Angelenos are capable of, in any adverse circumstances, when they actually give a damn,” he wrote.

“Breathtaking architecture like this is a magnet…it draws us in, makes us *want* to be here, and inspires us to do great things here,” he added.

Culver City’s (W)rapper office tower, absent the uniformity and symmetrical nature of the Eastern Columbia Building, was designed by architect Eric Owen Moss. The building features a vertical section of windows surrounded by seemingly random sections jutting out of the structure.

Moss told DeZeen the building’s unusual design will “encourage this sort of professional, entrepreneurial open-mindedness.”

He believes “nuanced” buildings in low-rise areas, in contrast with buildings that blend in, are better for creative work.

“So there’s a spatial variability, both in terms of potential tenancies and just in terms of the conception of the structure,” Moss said.

“This is at least a metaphor for the smaller buildings that offer different spaces at different heights.”

Pratt is not a fan.

“This ugliness poisons the soul. You want to avert your eyes from this stain on our skyline. How can you enjoy or take pride in where you live if you don’t even want to look at it? It looks like the wreckage of some great tragedy,” he wrote.

“Predictably, this monstrosity remains largely empty; nobody wants to be here. This affront to beauty has become insta-blight, more likely to house Superman’s arch-nemesis than any functional business. The communist’s worship of ugliness has profound impacts on society,” he added.

Pratt believes art-deco architecture should dominate the city and should serve as the “defining aesthetic of the City of Angels.”

“When you think of the most lovely and cherished buildings in LA…places you *want* to go, they’re all Art Deco. We can make buildings look any way we want…why not choose this magical legacy and build like we care? Reject communism. Reject ugly. Embrace beauty,” he concluded.

Pratt has stayed entrenched in his activism for the city since he lost in the mayoral primary to Mayor Karen Bass and LA City Councilwoman Nithya Raman.

The former mayoral candidate claims he has a damning video of Bass or Raman that will force them to resign, but has yet to produce it.

The California Post reached out to the (W)rapper building’s architect for comment.
