Tesla Is ‘Winding Down’ Production of the Iconic Cybertruck in the Coming Year: Musk

Cybertruck production is ending, Tesla and SpaceX boss revealed on Friday.

“Tesla will be winding down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to make room for increased Cybercab production,” Musk posted on X.

The iconic vehicle never fully matched sales expectations, according to TechCrunch.

Musk projected sales would hit 250,000 per year.

Cox Automotive estimated 20,237 Cybertrucks were sold in the U.S. last year, according to CNBC. In 2024, 38,965 Cybertrucks were sold in the U.S.

TechCrunch noted that the major push from Tesla these days is its fleet of robotaxis.

Cybercabs have been used in Austin, Texas, for the past two months with no major problems.

Cybercabs have no steering wheels or pedals. They are designed and built for maximally efficient autonomous operation.

Tesla has said Cybercabs will be appearing in Dallas this month, while other cities are also slated to receive the service.

Tesla is also ending production of the Model S sedan and Model X SUV to make room for their Optimus humanoid robots.

The Cybertruck was first announced in 2019.

“Trucks have been the same for a very long time,” Musk said then, according to CNBC.

“Like 100 years. Trucks have been basically the same. We want to try something different,” he said.

Musk added that “probably my personal favorite for the next product is the pickup truck, and we are going to just do an amazing pickup truck,” according to TechCrunch.

The BBC noted that the “Cyberbeast” model of the Cybertruck has a price of $102,000, while other models start at around $80,000.
