Two police officers were shot and a suspect is dead after what started as an investigation turned into a deadly shootout near Connecticut’s capital late Friday night.
Cops were investigating “illegal activity” just outside of Hartford at around 11 p.m. when a male suspect fled the scene on foot, Hartford Police Lieutenant Aaron Boisvert told WTNH.
When the officers attempted to arrest the unnamed suspect, they felt an object they “believed to be a firearm in the suspect’s waistband,” said Boisvert.

The suspect then jumped into a vehicle and drove through Hartford with the officers in a hot pursuit, which ended at Webster Court in Newington.
The cops and suspect exchanged gunfire — which left both officers injured and the suspect declared dead at the scene.
The officers were rushed to hospital and listed in stable condition — however, the extent of their injuries is currently unknown.
A firearm was recovered at the scene, the report stated.
