Surveillance video captured the moment a suspected gunman opened fire on co-workers at a South Los Angeles assisted-living facility, injuring three.
The footage shows suspected shooter Darryl Arnette Barnes, 60, who worked as a maintenance man at the Progressive Home for the Elderly, allegedly firing at his colleagues with a handgun on Monday, according to KTLA.
Before the shooting, he reportedly said, “I’m tired of this.”
In the footage, Barnes appears to pull the gun from a shopping cart before firing at a person. The footage then shows him on the other side of a counter firing more shots.
A person is then seen diving over the counter and in an attempt to flee.
Three people were hospitalized after the shooting, with one victim in listed in critical condition and two listed as stable.
“They are all believed to be employees, suspect included,” LAPD Capt. Mike Bland told The Post. “The shooting itself is believed to have occurred in the lobby of building. He [the suspect] was located by responders inside of the building.”
The LAPD described the victims as a woman in her 40s, a woman in her 60s, and a man in his 60s. Their names have not been released.
Officers arrested Barnes without incident inside the Progressive Home for the Elderly. About 100 people live at the Progressive Home for the Elderly. The multi-story facility serves low-income seniors.
Barnes has been charged with three counts of attempted murder and is being held on $4 million bail.
He faces life in prison if he’s convicted.
The senior pastor of Progressive Community Missionary Baptist Church, associated with the living facility, spoke with KTLA after the shooting.
“My biggest prayer is that we figure out a way to have peace with one another,” Pastor Jason Malveaux told KTLA. “It doesn’t have to always escalate to hot tempers.”
