Wealthy neighbors outraged after Airbnb party erupts in gunfire, wild video shows

Residents of a wealthy Los Angeles neighborhood are outraged and living in fear after a wild shooting at an Airbnb party that remains a mystery.

Exclusive video, obtained by The California Post, shows the violence erupted on June 28 just before 3 a.m., after partygoers left a chaotic house party that was held at a home rented via Airbnb in the posh LA enclave of Beverly Grove, authorities said.

That’s when a huge crowd gathered for the rager at the Southeast corner of Lindenhurst & La Jolla Avenues spilled out into the street, after a violent argument inside the house party forced celebrants to flee for their safety.

Wild video of the scene shows a suspect firing 15 shots in succession, into a car parked in front of a home at 6380 Lindenhurst.

Neighbors said that wild parties hosted at Airbnb rentals are a worsening problem in the area.

“I am deeply saddened to see my beloved Beverly Grove community affected by such a senseless act of violence,” said one resident, who wanted to remain anonymous

“It is especially troubling that this recent shooting stemmed from an Airbnb rental,” she added. “My thoughts are with everyone impacted, and I hope this serves as a catalyst for meaningful discussions about protecting the safety and character of our neighborhood.

In the shocking video, recorded on a Ring home security camera, a black sedan is shown stopping on the upscale block. A man wearing white pants and a white hoody, with the hood pulled up over his head, appears to talk with the occupants of the vehicle.

After a short exchange, the sedan pulls around the corner, and five shots are fired in quick succession at a car parked on the block. As a bystander runs from the scene in terror, the gunman runs up to the stationary vehicle and unloads another 10 rounds at his victim.

Neighbors in the area said that the man who was shot confirmed the gunfire stemmed from an argument that escalated from that party onto the street. The victim refused to cooperate with the police.

Police said that the victim drove himself to a local hospital with gunshot wounds. The man told detectives he was sitting in his car when he was hit. He was listed in stable condition. There were no details on a suspect or a possible motive, CBS reported.

An LAPD spokeswoman confirmed that police received a call for service on the 6300 block of Lindenhurst just before 3 a.m., but said the call was for a loud banging on a homeowner’s front door.

CBS footage showed police investigating the scene with crime scene tape protecting the area of the block where the shooting occurred.

Outraged residents reported the incident to Airbnb, and the company responded by suspending the listing for 90 days.

“After carefully investigating your report, we have suspended the listing for 90 days, and we have warned the host,” an Airbnb rep told terrified neighbors. “Subsequent violations additional listing suspensions or removal.”

The Post was unable to identify the address of the listing or find the property’s owner.

Katy Yaroslavsky, the City Councilmember for Community District 5, where the incident took place, is working on new legislation that will turn off all utilities for properties of repeat Airbnb offenders who do not comply with the law.

Yaroslavsky’s office did not respond to requests for comment.

A neighbor said crime in the once-quiet neighborhood is worsening as more homeless people come there from Skid Row.

“Tons of homeless are invading the area,” said the resident, who wished to remain anonymous. “It’s a new normal for the area to experience homelessness and crime.”
