Woman accused of intentionally running over friend in chilling parking-lot murder as another pal turns up stabbed in double-death mystery

A California woman allegedly mowed down her friend with an SUV — and in a disturbing twist, another close pal was found stabbed to death less than two hours later.

Anila Baby, 32, was charged with murder in connection with the death of 35-year-old Anjana Hari, according to a criminal complaint and police affidavit reported by Indica News and The Federal.

The bizarre chain of events began Friday around noon at the Mill Creek Apartments in Milpitas, where Hari walked toward Baby’s blue Toyota Highlander carrying a bag, according to a witness cited in the police report.

She appeared relaxed, smiling and friendly.

There was no apparent fight or confrontation before the SUV allegedly suddenly surged forward.

The witness told police Baby struck Hari and kept driving, smashing into three parked vehicles before fleeing the complex, according to The Federal.

Hari suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at about 12:12 p.m.

Police initially treated the case as a hit-and-run.

“This is a very unsettling incident for the city of Milpitas,” Milpitas Police Department Capt. Jason Speckenheuer told KTVU. “It was initially reported as a hit-and-run, but after further investigation and elements, it appeared that it was an intentional act on her part.”

Cops soon found Baby about a mile away in a Walgreens parking lot.

“She appeared incoherent and was unable to answer questions. She had visible injuries in her hand and legs,” Detective Tailor Goods wrote in a report submitted to the court.

Then came the second death.

At 1:53 p.m., San Jose police responded to a report at a residence in the 700 block of Linda Vista Street, according to The Federal, which cited On Manorama.

Inside, officers found 40-year-old Ann Mary Mathew with at least one stab wound.

Her death was ruled a homicide, The Federal reported.

Mathew and Hari were reportedly close friends of Baby, adding another chilling twist to an already bizarre series of events.

The two deaths happened at separate locations, despite earlier reports that all three women lived in the same Milpitas complex.

The Federal has reported allegations that Baby was responsible for both deaths.

Police, however, have not publicly established that connection in the material available.

The Federal reported that investigators found forensic evidence, but authorities have not disclosed what it shows.

Friends and community members also reportedly rejected speculation that job loss or “depression” was behind the killings, saying they knew of no tensions between the women.

The shocking case has left the Bay Area’s Malayalee community reeling.

Baby remains behind bars without bail at the Santa Clara County Jail.

She is scheduled to return to court Sept. 10.
