One of the many great things about tennis is that it regularly spits out matchups between polar opposites.
Tuesday’s Round 2 tilt between Marton Fucsovics and No. 10 Alexander Bublik certainly fits that bill.
On one side of the court will stand Bublik, a heavy favorite thanks to his prodigious serve and natural ability.
On the other hand, Fucsovics, a relentless worker-bee who makes up for his lack of elite weaponry with a never-ending motor.
There are plenty of heavyweights in action in the wee hours of Tuesday night/Wednesday morning at the Australian Open, but this looks like the most intriguing match of the card.

Neither Bublik nor Fucsovics had any issues in Round 1, with the former dispatching Jenson Brooksby 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, and the latter whitewashing Camilo Ugo in under two-and-a-half hours.
Bublik was a big favorite to beat Brooksby, but he will be buoyant after the result for a number of reasons.
Not only was it his first win in Melbourne since 2022, but the American has a lot of the same strengths as Fucsovics.
They’re not offensive dynamos, but they are tireless and force you to work hard for every point by extending rallies and making you hit that extra ball.
That type of player has often been Bublik’s kryptonite, as he’s known for his hot temper and inability to remain composed on the court.
The Kazakhstani star is one of the most gifted players in the world, but he’s got a habit of beating himself, often resorting to ridiculous displays when things begin to go pear-shaped during a match.

That said, Bublik has seemingly turned a corner over the last calendar year.
He was one of the best players on the ATP Tour in 2025, winning four titles in the summer months, and then gatecrashed the top-10 by capturing a trophy in his first tournament of 2026, dispatching Lorenzo Musetti in the final of the Hong Kong Open.
Against previous versions of Bublik, I’d be all over Fucsovics.
He can be a nightmare to play against, especially if you’re short-tempered and want to get off the court as quickly as possible.
But this new version of Bublik seems to be on a whole different level, and is a legitimate threat to make a deep run at any Grand Slam in 2026.
