This was the tantalizing margin that separated Cam Young from winning his first career major championship in Sunday’s scintillating British Open final round at Royal Birkdale.
Young, who learned the game at Sleepy Hollow Country Club, where his father, David, was the head pro for two decades, took 271 shots this week.
It was the 268th of those that would cruelly cost him the greatest victory of his career.
