Yankees closer David Bednar, who had a superb season, is known for a varied repertoire and world-class courage — or big stones, as they say in baseball.

He’s also known for his motto: “Whatever the team needs.”

That’s especially true now, when the team may need more considering the higher stakes.

“I think that’s what the playoffs are all about,” Bednar said. “You’re just trying to find a way to win every game. That’s what you work all the 162 for, to have this opportunity.”
