Dominating French trans basketball player implores WNBA to give her a chance: ‘Won’t say no’

French transgender basketball player Julie Tetart wouldn’t turn down an offer to play in the WNBA amid debates on the participation of trans athletes in women’s sports.

The 34-year-old Tetart, who came out as trans in October 2021, plays in Monaco.

“If they contact me, I won’t say no. But you have to be realistic: I’m old, and there are far better players than me!” Tetart told OutKick over Instagram direct messages on Monday.

“Obviously, it’s a childhood dream just like for any female basketball player, but unfortunately, it’s not possible.

“The league, yes. The country, no, haha.”

Juliet Tetart led France's second-tier Ligue 2 in both scoring and rebounding in the 2025-26 season.

The 6-foot-3 center did not elaborate further.

Tetart gave a one-word response on Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham’s recent remarks on the topic — Cunningham told ESPN she wants to “protect young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”

“Aucun,” Tetart said in French, which translated to English is, “None.”

In the 2025-26 season, Tetart led France’s second-tier Ligue 2 in both scoring and rebounding — en route to Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Domestic Player of the Year accolades.

Tetart averaged 21.2 points, 20.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game during the 2025-26 campaign.

Cunningham’s remarks sparked a wave of debates around the WNBA on the participation of trans athletes in women’s sports.

Some of her fans organized rallies at Fever games in support of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model.

Last month, the WTA updated its eligibility policy stating that all players undergo a mandatory one-time gene test — becoming the first professional sports league to go in that direction.
