It’s been two days since the Golden State Valkyries won the WNBA Finals by knocking down the Atlanta Dream in a 68-63 Game 7 victory, and Gabby Williams has put her name in Bay Area royalty.
After being crowned the WNBA Finals MVP, Williams was asked who had reached out to her, to which she revealed Michael Jordan congratulated her on Monday morning.
“Michael Jordan texted me this morning, that was awesome.” 👀

Kendra Andrews, who covers women’s basketball at ESPN said Jordan told Williams to “stay hungry.”
Only for her to respond back saying, “I’ve never been hungrier.”
Williams scored 30 points, while having three defensive rebounds, two assists, two steals and four blocked shots in Game 7, and has suddenly found her name being talked about all over by the media.
Williams said she appreciates the praise but hasn’t been looking for respect from “the media” but from her peers and colleagues.
“I think having so many past teammates, just genuinely who have followed my trajectory reach out to me,” Williams said. “That meant a lot to me.”
When the first half of Game 7 concluded, Williams had only two points lit up next to her name on the scoreboard.
It wasn’t until the second half that the eight-year veteran went on an offensive surge and scored 28 points to pave the way for Golden State to capture their first WNBA title.
Andrews reported that Valkyries owner Joe Lacob who also owns the Warriors, called her second-half performance “legendary.”
“That was unbelievable stuff,” Lacob said to Andrews.
Williams was asked if she’s thought about being measured on the same level as other all-time great Bay Area athletes and said she’s been focused on living in the moment and cherishing the time she’s spent with her teammates.
“Unfortunately, we’ll never have exactly this group again. I’m just trying to soak in this moment as long as I can with these people,” Williams said.
