The news of the day Wednesday was the Lakers’ sale at a $12.5 billion valuation, with the franchise changing hands from Mark Walter to Josh Kushner and former Disney head honcho Bob Iger.

Not only is it the largest sale in the history of American sports, but it beats the previous record by $2.5 billion, which was also set by the Lakers, barely a year ago.

So, given that this week already featured an injection of private equity into the Yankees, we figured it was a good moment to zoom out and look at the ownership structures of our teams here in New York.
