During halftime of the Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys matchup on Monday Night Football, the NFL announced that Jay-Z would be performing the halftime show for Super Bowl 61 at SoFi Stadium.
With the pressure of playing one of the biggest live televised performances on national TV, the 25-time Grammy Award-winning artist isn’t phased by it.
Jay-Z was caught on camera by TMZ in New York City after the announcement was made official when the outlet asked him about the pressue he might be feeling.
The rapper smiled, laughed, and told them, “There’s no pressure involved.“
TMZ also asked him what it will be like preparing for the halftime show, and he responded, “Same as always.”
With Jay-Z set to take the stage, it will be the second time the halftime show has been performed at SoFi Stadium, as the venue hosted Super Bowl 56, which featured the hometown Los Angeles Rams becoming the second team in NFL history to win it at their home stadium.
The halftime show is considered one of the highest marks a musician can reach in their career.
Super Bowl 56’s halftime show was headlined by Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar. It also included guest appearances by 50 Cent and Anderson.Paak.
Since Super Bowl 56, the league has featured Rihanna, Usher, Kendrick Lamar, and Bad Bunny in previous halftime performances.
Aside from SoFi Stadium having one of the best halftime shows in recent memory, Los Angeles has had its fair share of iconic performances, including Michael Jackson’s performance at the Rose Bowl at Super Bowl 27 in 1993.
Since 2020, the NFL has partnered with Jay-Z’s entertainment company, “Roc Nation,” as it’s live music strategist.
